IUD removal

IUD removal (either copper or hormonal) is a simple and safe procedure performed in the clinic by a specialist doctor. It is recommended to remove it at the end of its effective period, if the woman wants to get pregnant, or if any bothersome side effects appear. At the Horizon Medical Care Center in Ibri, We remove the IUD with care and privacy, providing post-removal instructions, and alternative pregnancy planning options if the patient wishes.

IUD removal procedure

We perform IUD removal in quick and safe steps:

  1. Preparation: Removal is best performed during the first days of your menstrual cycle, but can be removed at any time provided there is no pregnancy.

  2. Pre-removal examination: The pelvis is examined to confirm the position of the IUD and the integrity of the cervix.

  3. Removal: Hold the threads hanging from the IUD with a special tool and pull gently, and the woman may feel a slight contraction.

  4. Duration of the procedure: Removal takes no more than 2-5 minutes, and is mostly painless.

  5. Care after removal: Minor bleeding or mild cramping may occur for a few hours, and rest and drink fluids are recommended.

  6. Options after removal: Alternative contraception is discussed if the patient does not plan to become pregnant.
